Mihyo, Paschal (2005) “Cross-border provision and the future of higher education in Africa” in CODESRIA Bulletin no. 1 & 2. page 22.
Mihyo is Director of Research and Programs for the AAU in Accra, Ghana.
A report of the 11th General Conference of the Association of African Universities held in Cape Town in 2005.
Thabo Mbeki spoke to the gathering and advised that NEPAD and other structures that have been negotiated between Africa’s nations ought to be one measure of what educators do vis-à-vis higher education and cross-border provision.
AAU business section meetings urged cooperation between member institutions around research, teaching, quality assurance and staff exchange – a prelude, necessarily, to what Mbeki advised.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS – PAUL ZELEZA (Penn State University, Professor of African Studies and History) - Globalization and knowledge economies are pushing universities to transform, but academic mobility was unequal and uneven, and knowledge exchange just as unequal and uneven – for all of its being a Western notion and imposition.
